Re: Any news on the Santa Cruz P.E.? Paging Howard...
Trains are scheduled to start running Friday. Here are a few recent Facebook posts from me.
Iowa Pacific’s full dome Scenic View arrived at Watsonville Junction this morning and I dropped by to meet the escort and Polar Express event staff. I am looking forward to next week when the Polar Express commences operation.
My wife and I were leaving Watsonville this morning after an excellent breakfast at the Red Apple and were driving down West Beach Street past the Agron plant towards Highway 1. Looks like Scenic View was moved last night from the UP yard and is now securely stored behind the gate at Agron.

The last of the tank cars in storage on the branch line are located in an area named Nuga. According to Santa Cruz Trains, Nuga was the lowest point on the entire Southern Pacific branch line, being only 8 feet above sea level. These cars will be moved temporarily to allow the Polar Express to pass for the equipment move to Santa Cruz.
