Years ago railroad stock prices often would fluctuate within a given range with very little correlation with the rest of the financial world. For many years my wife would buy SP stock when it was at the bottom of its usual range and then sell when it was near the top. Then she would wait for it to go back down to the bottom to buy again. She made good money this way. She felt SP was a sound investment because it owned so much land in those days.
