I was told -- about 15 years ago, before digital
photography was what most people did -- that
Kodachrome had a 105-year design life, meaning that
it was designed to last 105 years before the colors
shifted or faded. And because Kodachrome did not come
out until 1935, even the very oldest Kodachrome has not
even existed long enough for the colors to shift or fade!

(I have some slides my father took in 1940 on Kodacrome that
look as though they were taken yesterday! The colors have
NOT faded or shifted at ALL.)

Kodak will never ever be able to make a decent profit making any
film, much less our beloved Kodachrome, because to do that they
will need a large and healthy analog film industry infrastructure,
and that infrastructure is almost gone. There are very few stores
that even sell film any more, and even fewer still that sell and
repair analog film cameras and projectors and accessories.

Yeah, it would be wonderful for Ektachrome to come back, but I don't
see any way that Kodak can ever make any money making it, and if they
can't make a decent profit from making it, then sooner or later they
will stop making it.
