They have to fire up these wonderful beasts regularly
to make sure they will work reliably when they are called
on to actually go to plow snow on the Hill. So -- seeing
them fired up does not mean they are actually going to be
used. The crews also need to periodically refresh themselves
on how to fire them up and run them.

But, nevertheless, do be prepared -- in case they actually
will be used. The huge problem in getting to see and
photograph them actually working on the Hill is that, by
the time the snow is so deep that the railroad decides they
have to use the rotaries, the roads are almost certain to be
closed because of the same conditions that require the rotaries
to be used.

Nonetheless -- good luck getting photos of these magnificent
beasts in action!!'

Be safe out there, everyone!!
