There are a couple of good reasons why that wouldn't happen.
First the existing trestle has been recently shored up at the east end and it's considered to have reached the end of it's economic life.
Second, the new trestle will need to have a longer platform, that extends east of the G street (elevated) and a crossover just east of the extended platform. That would be pretty difficult to do using the existing trestle.
