IC and some others did it, too. The 16-567 or 645 non-turbo engine has 4 sets of exhaust manifolds.
Two each are connected together by a flexible duct, and exhast out if a single stack, so the two stacks each serve 2 manifolds.
This joint often gets loose or dusts out. Giving each manifold it's own stack eliminates the ducts and the bsnds that hold the ducts on.
