I agree, Hutch. The 'official reason' was given as, 'track maintenance.' However there is/was nothing to run on that rail. Hammond's fight to keep the 19 was protracted. He had a notice posted at the auction there would be a $700+ per day charge for storage on the YW property. Removing the rails directly in front of the engine house was a good way to garner a fat bundle of money ... right!?
The owner of the 19 has agreed to allow the YW to transfer the locomotive to Montague, where it is to be loaded on a heavy-duty flat car. The rails in front of the engine house have been reinstalled (using the same rail and ties). Comprende? :)
