Another interesting article about the travails of the Pacific Imperial Railroad! Unfortunately it only goes so far and while MTS claims progress, there is absolutely ZERO work being down on the Desert Line portion of the old SD&AE Railroad! The video is fascinating in that is shows Tunnel 16, not 6, is once again closed! While working for Carrizo Gorge Railway, I helped reopen this tunnel in February of 2004 and ran freight trains through the gorge! These rockfalls are typical of the terrain in the gorge. The recent rains and earthquakes will cause these rockfalls from time to time.

The infighting within PIR is typical of the Extremely Unethical, Bent Folks who are the current principals in the company. These same Folks took over Carrizo Gorge Railway, the previous operator, back in 2006/07 in the same shady manner and ran the company into the ground. Since then, they embargoed the railroad because they didn't want to pay for bridge repairs that MTS made mandatory after an inspection was done by the Osmose Corporation. ALL revenue traffic was prohibited and ZERO work trains have been operated! The 3 locomotives PIR brought in are being stripped of parts, sitting unprotected out at Coyote Wells in Imperial County!

Recent reports out of Mexico had the principals of the Baja Railroad Company, the operator of the 44 miles, not 38 as reported, being arrested by the Federal Government for money laundering! Zero mention of this by MTS!

Another interesting aside is the fact that there has STILL been NO mention of the $40 Million Dollar lawsuit filed by the attorneys for one of the original Carrizo Gorge Railway shareholder, naming MTS, PIR and the aformentioned Extremely Unethical, Bent Folks!
