As an interesting side note to the Central California Traction bridge and the unused portion of the line going north to Sacramento some viewers may find this interesting (as well as a commentary on the state of today's thinking). Several years back I was doing business with an individual who was a partner with a consulting firm. It sounded interesting so I asked him what sort of projects his company worked on. One of them turned out to be looking at a light rail system possibly linking Stockton with Sacramento. To this end he said they looked at several different possible routes. At this I asked how the CCT line looked. I told him how the line north of Lodi was largely unused, how although the line ran east of some towns, etc. that by utilizing that right of way they wouldn't have to buy expensive in town real estate. It would not require demolition of homes and businesses (people generally don't like that when it happens to them). The mostly ag land along the right of way has a lot of parcels that are vacant and could be utilized for parking and bus transfer locations. A lot of points to consider for such a project. Bottom line: He had never heard of it! What's wrong with this picture?
