The daily overnight operation ended in December 1955 when SP used the shutdown caused by the December flood to lobby the PUC to get rid of the service. It came back months later as Chas notes. I was lucky to ride it during a Greyhound strike in 1952 behind steam....the Harriman coaches filled with smoke at Loleta and Island Mountain tunnels.
