OPINION, THE ALBANY (OR) DEMOCRAT HERALD: STOPPING METAL THEFT

(ED. NOTE: Early last week, a friend and coworker of mine had the air conditioning system condenser unit stolen out of his back yard as did two of his neighbors in Garland, Texas.

A couple of days earlier, my friend had noticed an air conditioning repair truck parked across the street at a house that was vacant and on the market for a few months. He sent his son across the street to get the man's business card in case he had need for air conditioning repairs.

When the police came to his house to take the theft report, my friend gave them the business card. Garland Police Department detectives used the card to locate the men (there were two of them) and put a tail on them. They arrested them Friday after catching them in the act at another Garland, Texas home. The police said they had a magnetic sign on the side of the truck with the name of a bogus A/C repair business.

There is a God. - lwg)
