I've noticed some very modern and clean-running locos lately in Russian train videos. The older generation of Russian diesels looked like real junkers, with flames and thick black smoke.

Russian has a lot of bright people. But what retards Russia is corruption. I just looked at the corruption index for Russia, and it is near the bottom. It has the same score as Iran -- a 29. The only worse nations are places like Sudan and Somalia.
