To which GOP senators are you referring? The only one I can think of is Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson of Texas. However, she is no longer a senator and it's difficult for me to imagine Ted Cruz putting much effort into saving the Texas Eagle or Sunset Limited.

Pennsylvania GOP senators Arlen Specter and Rick Santorum, among the most powerful politicians at the time, did not stop the New York - Pittsburgh - Chicago Three Rivers from being discontinued.
