Stevo,
I wasn't guessing: the sandboxes are the only items shown on the equipment list in the Folio sheet for the M-10000's.
The later E-2 LA-1/SF-1 had Train Control equipment, 2 sandboxes and 2 battery boxes in the bulbous nose.
