WOW -- I too rode in Silver Shop on my RGZ trip -- the last RGZ to make it to Salt Lake City, April 14th, 1983. Rode in it the next day too, detouring back to Denver via " Wonderful " Wyoming on EwePee. I also helped work on a sister car -- Silver Patio -- when it was living in Orange County, CA.
I always thought the " Vista - Dome Buffet Lounge & Dormitory car " was the perfect railfan car, having all the necessary components, if one didn't mind sleeping in bunks. Then I recall that this car type did NOT have vestiblues !!!
