The best option would be for GGT to take over SMART as soon as possible, to protect the investment and transition to a viable line.

The key development would be the recognition a second desk for light rail is indeed feasible. My entree into SF would be via Lombard and the Marina and then over to Geary under Pacific Heights to the general area of Laguna and Geary thence downtown.

I doubt the Central "Stubway" will double back to the Marina - it is already too far north and I think any extension will end up at Kirkland Yard. But the Marina is going to want rapid rail and cutting over to Geary will work. You can cross Market St. on the mezzanine level at 3rd & Kearny. Adding access to the Northbay to a Marina subway is a natural and helps to sell the scheme.
