UP Donner Line

The Reno Trench in only a few years old. Track was laid with concrete ties. Barely five years later, they are replacing the concrete ties with new concrete ties. I was led to believe those ties had a thirty year service life?

On or about June 4th, UP started replacing rail somewhere between Colfax and Truckee. Specifically I don’t know where. The line is pretty well shut down during daylight hours and sheer bedlam at night. Yesterday, they annulled both Amtrak 5 & 6. Anyone know the specifics?
