If you're looking for something to do of the 4th of July weekend you might consider visiting Carson City. The Nevada State Railroad Museum will be operating V&T 4-6-0 25, V&T woodburning 4-4-0 22-Inyo, V&T McKeen motorcar 22, Lake Tahoe Lumber & Fluming narrow gauge woodburning 2-6-0 Glenbrook and Tucson, Cornellia and Gila Bend Edwards motorcar 401. This equipment will be operating Saturday, July 1 thru Tues, July 4.
Also operating out of Carson City to Virginia City on Saturday and Sunday will be V&T 2-8-0 29. The V&T in Virginia City also runs a regular short train from Virginia City to Gold Hill using a diesel(usually a GE 44 or 80 ton center cab).

If you haven't visited the museum in a while this weekend would be a good time to do so. The woodburners aren't operated very often and seldom together. This is a good opportunity to get up close to some active, beautifully restored artifacts. Maybe they'll even let you throw some wood on the fire.
