All you need is 30 years of service and 60 years of age (although this gets tweaked from time to time). Then go to your nearest RRB office and apply for a pension. You "cash out" in monthly direct deposits.

30 years of RR service + 60 years of age. "RR service" can be with number of different RRs, but they have to be paying into the RRB system while you're working for them.
