Another alternative, home-built, is to get a large piece of cardboard and punch a very small pinhole in it. Then project the sun's image onto another piece of cardboard (white, preferably) or even just a concrete patio (smoother the better). The pinhole dims the light and acts as a lens to create an image of the eclipse on the target. Simple pinhole camera. You don't look at the sun at all, but at its (dimmed) image. With a partial eclipse, which most of the country will see, it's probably still a good idea to wear reasonably dark sunglasses.
