Other than the signature, did you actually understand a word of what this actually means to the current legal requirements and processes it discusses?

This Executive Order isn't even that good of political theater. That's because it is complete bull$hit, that affects virtually none of the real processes or procedures mandated by law.

This EO applies to the Federal Agencies and OMB under the Executive Branch. It does not change any of the applicable laws and/or the procedures those laws require. And, since the Feds do almost none of this actual planning, environmental, design, procurement, or construction work themselves, as almost all of that work is actually done at the State and Local level, it actually changes or streamlines almost nothing about when you get to pour cement.

This was a classic pure political PR stunt, by the poor USDOT, and the poor beleaguered Secretary, our dear sweet Elaine (aka Mrs. Mitch McConnell) to show that they are "doing" something, on the YUGE infrastructure promises.

This was a glitzier more "sexed up" (as those Brits say) show, but not unlike like the Amtrak long distance solicitation, like the FTA privatization guidance, this was to be just the normal dose of fodder for the media and the masses to show that something YUGE is happening on "infrastructure"......

This Executive Order that doesn't really do anything, except require FTA, FHWA, and FRA to waste more taxpayer time and money to report on what they are doing 180 days from now to streamline these processes (and even that "requirement" had an "opt out" caveat) to the OMB.

Normally this would be the excuse for a press release, the kind politicians like to release to show that "things" are getting "done", even if they aren't.

And, in this case, it was an excuse for a full on "glitz and glamour" press conference, at the Towers no less, to show off the YUGE infrastructure initiative, with the topics "limited" to the subject of "infrastructure".......???

And, we all got to see how "on message" that all ended up going down, right General Kelly?

Don't get me wrong, our infrastructure has gotten pretty shabby, and we've got a lot of catching up to do even with basic maintenance. But, if you actually think an Executive Order to "review" processes and report back, really fixes any of that, I've got a "bridge to nowhere" to sell you.......
