Scrap gons out of CdA and other mill news

Sorry for the slight delay in this; been off for a week shooting STMA, POVA, etc., and attending weddings and birthdays, and recovering from earlier trips to MRL, Marias, etc. On Thursday 8/14 BNSF's Coeur d'Alene Local pulled four gondolas full of scrap metal from the site that once was Stimson's DeArmond Mill in Coeur d'Alene. Other material has been getting trucked out. Conductor told me there were no more gondolas on order, and the contractor doing the salvage work would be getting a flatcar this week to ship out some big machine of theirs. Caboose was still sitting at Gibbs late last week, so at the very least there'll be one more trip in and out of CdA to pick it up. Meanwhile, shipments out of Potlatch's particle board plant in Post Falls are pretty strong right now, but Idaho Veneer remains slow. IV got a single flexibeam in last week and said they wouldn't have it loaded until this week. On a related note, with all the mills closing around here, including J.D. Lumber at Albeni Falls/Priest River which is shutting down next month, it was nice to see STMA still bringing 50-car log trains into St. Maries and a healthy stream of finished lumber west to the UP interchange at Plummer. Not to mention the additional loads UP picks up from the mill in Plummer.
