Coors did NOT have to be kept refrigerated -- the brewery just wanted it kept cool. " Brewed cold - shipped cold - delivered cold " was part of Coors' advertising for years. Several railroads ( Espee, DRGW, WP, EwePee, BN ) bought specialized Insulated Boxcars for long distance shipping. These cars did NOT have refrigeration units; they did have thick insulation, load restraints, and air bags for Coors Beer service. The cars hauled empty beer kegs and bottles on the backhaul to Golden, CO.
