Good question. It could have been due to capacity issues on EwePee's single - track line between Riverside & Los Angeles, or maybe AMTRAK didn't want the expense of opening additional depots on the line ??? Come to think of it, there wern't many depots left on that line, ( Ontario & East L.A. ??? ), and Santa Fe was pro - passenger train. Was the U.P. passenger connection still in place across the river into Mission Tower ???
