Ah, you forget. Most of the the signals that were called were by hand signs in the cab. You couldn't hear crap across the cab with all the engine noise.

A slash across your waist was a "Yellow". A "highball" green was just that. A red would have been a stop sign or a washout.

If the other person was in the gangway, ready to jump, well, you get the drift.
