In referring to Southern Pacific Passenger Train Schedules dated 5/12/1968 I am curious as to why some trains had only the Automatic Buffet food service and which ones retained a dining car (Meal Service?) until the end of operations? When did the Coast Daylight get the Automatic Buffet and have its dining car pulled as this is not indicated in May of 1968.
Sunset #1/2 shows Automatic Buffet car. Los Angeles to New Orleans
Cascade #11/12 shows Meal Service and Lounge Car; Portland – San Francisco
Daylight #98/99 shows Meal and Beverage service, Dome Lounge, & Parlor car; Los Angeles – San Francisco
Del Monte #126/141 shows Parlor Snack Lounge car
City of San Francisco #101/102 shows Meal and Dome Lounge (Chicago – San Francisco), Automatic Buffet car (Ogden – San Francisco)
San Joaquin Daylights #51/52 & 53/54 shows Automatic Buffet and Lounge (during summer season)
