The small Klamath/ Dunsmuir hook and the big hook from the Roseville One Spot were used in the canyon sometime in the late 80s. It was north of Gibson. Couldn't get trucks in there between two tunnels, two bridges and a half of a concrete snow shed.

The big hook from Roseville was the largest steam hook west of the Mississippi that was operable at the time. It took two men to operate it. The Dunsmuir hook just used one man but someone had stolen the whistle so they had to wait until they found one before they could use it.

They later loaded about 8 trucks onto pig flats and when the track was clear we shoved the flats to a spot and they sucked up the DE that was spilled. That took all day. They were still building the I-5 bypass over the top of Gibson.

The Roseville hook and its relief cars were all painted in Daylight colors. I have a huge picture of the both of them at work when I was on the work train. Its at least 3' x 5'.
