The machine that I recall being pictured was a Turret lathe. It probably was a Warner Swazey and was built in the 1940's or 1950's. Turret lathes were useful for production of things like boiler stays and other things made of bar stock.
The best source of information about railroad machine tools and practices is in Locomotive cyclopedias.
