Let's not be so quick to go "I told you so..."

Traffic Fatalities run around 40k people a year currently. If self driving cars reduced this by 50%? 25%? 10%? Wouldn't that still be a win for society? Like many things it sometimes takes failure, even fatal ones to improve the system overall.
