Right. I remember that so well. As a result, I never wore my uniform in public again, even if discounted travel was available.

I was just at the VA Hospital yesterday, for my 6 month check-up, and nobody mentioned a damned thing.

For what it's worth, when I was drafted in November 1964,they still had the WWII "policy" in effect that if you were the last male survivor of your family, you could NOT be sent to a combat zone. Thus, no Viet Nam, nor no Korea for me. Then, about August of 1966, the Captain of Headquarters Battery, called me in and informed me that the "policy" had been revised to state that one had to be the last surviving male family member, if your father or brothers were killed as a result of military action, plus they just "discovered" that I was a college graduate. The idiot wanted to promote me to a 1st Lieutenant, and send to to Viet Nam, assuming that I would re-enlist.

What a fu&%ing idiot!
