RailsNW is pleased to announce our 2018 schedule for our signature Oregon
Coast Crawler steam powered private rail excursion. Fall is always an
exceptional time on the Oregon Coast and we have an all day treat well
planned for you on September 29th. This year, we'll travel to the
breathtaking the Mohler Trestle rather than Batterson, allowing for extra
time in two charming coastal towns as well as many opportunities for
unique and memorable photography.
Journeying northward from the picturesque fishing village of Garibaldi,
Oregon on the Port of Tillamook Branch Line, the Oregon Coast Crawler
continues an ongoing tradition of arranging unique charter experiences
using vintage train equipment on historic and scenic rail routes within
the Pacific Northwest.
Traveling on tracks that see little steam powered train services today,
you'll roll at a leisurely pace beside Tillamook and Nehalem Bays before
making a turn away from the coast affording a glimpse of lush greenery at
the entrance to the Nehalem River Valley. A quick turnaround at Mohler
means you'll have plentiful free time in both bayside Wheeler and the
'All-American beach town' of Rockaway, mere steps from the Pacific Ocean.
Enjoy these chances to check out local shops and stroll the town streets,
perhaps purchasing locally made
taffy or ice cream.
This special trip will most likely be run using the Oregon Coast Scenic
Railroad's McCloud #25 locomotive, an engine featured in the movie 'Stand
By Me'. Several stops will be made for the purposes of photography and our
trainset includes a shared open-air car with outdoor seating.
