While there is evidently truth to the operation, there are in my mind all kinds of issues raised.
First, obviously this way the "guard" gets left behind with the car. I assume he remains until another train picks him up. It seems this would mean every train with this type of car would have to have an "extra" guard just for this situation making me wonder about any savings.
Second, once the car is stopped, then what? You now have the main track blocked with this car until another train picks this car up. The operation of picking this car up would certainly take longer, and in the long run cause more delays than making a regular stop.
Third, and I don't know if this ever happened, what happens if the car stops short of, or overruns, the station.
This is certainly a novel concept but not very practical in the long run. Still, a very interesting idea.
