The Oregon Pacific has sold its ex-SamTrak GE 45-ton locomotive to the Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad for work train service to repair a tunnel (tunel 25?) between Banks and Timber. FEMA money has already been awarded to repair the tunnel and once fixed will reopen the railroad as far as Buxton where the rock quarry is.
The 4501 will be loaded by crane onto a Rick Franklin Corporation lowboy at the OPR Milwaukie shops at 7:00 am on Wednesday, October 1st and then transported to Timber where the same crane will offload the unit onto POTB trackage.
Since SamTrak ceased operation several years ago, the 4501 was seldom used and was sold to the POTB at somwhat below market value in order to enable the POTB to begin the restoration.
I wish them the best of luck...this railroad is worth saving!!!!
