1) Yes, the trackage alignments in Tacoma are such, that a Southbound BNSF container train destination Tacoma Rail must pull past the lead over the Puyallup River, then reverse direction. In reality, these trains often have to be held out awhile account congestion at the harbor.
2) Any "intermodal train " headed to Stampede Pass will have a difficult time trying to fit in Stampede Tunnel, as clearances there do not allow for double - stacks.
3) Suggest you avoid using A St. crossing. :)
4) I have no knowledge of any BNSF attempt to secure trackage rights over Union Pacific between Reservation ( Tacoma ) & Tukwila. This would allow BNSF to avoid the reverse moves @ their Tacoma yard, but would not help the congestion @ U.P. 's Fife yard & single track main.
