The 1000 km range is interesting, though. On a line like the Cap Corridor, that would be a round trip Sac to or from SJ and return to Oakland, with a good reserve. Wonder if those Lint cars (the name would have to change in the US to avoid SNL episodes) could be made as double-deck FRA-compliant and run in longer (5-6 car) trains to replace older diesel trains? The diesel-hauled trains would still be more cost-effective in the short term, of course, so given limited capital funding would most likely stay, but FCMUs do look interesting for lines where electrification isn't currently justified (looking at you, eBART and SMART, when your current equipment comes up for replacement).
