This is not the first time for ex-SP steam on a former Rio Grande line.

For a few years, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad ran ex-SP 1744, a 2-6-0, ran between Alamosa and LaVeta, CA. I celebrated a birthday riding behind 1744 in 2007. My girlfriend got to crew to sing me happy birthday.
