After reading the Yelp reviews posted, I can see how non-railfans might not appreciate RVJ. I personally think that they were too hasty about getting rid of non-electric stuff. I can understand the opinion that they should concentrate on electric railroading/streetcars since no other norcal museum really does that. Let's not nit-pick about the F-Line.

The best day to visit RVJ is the so-called "Member's Day," which is open to all. They have more stuff running at greater frequencies than normal.

Personal opinion: Getting rid of SN712 was a mistake. But that ship has sailed. BTW, their archive seems to be pretty impressive.
