Wonder no more. UP had indeed approved the move,
and GGRM and UP agreed on the rate. Then some fool
not even involved at GGRM took it upon himself to
contact the master of dead steam locomotives in
Cheyenne, who then inserted himself into the process,
delaying the move by months.
Then, UP began PSR, abolished the Western Region,
enlarged the Roseville Sevice Unit, and moved or
fired all of the UP people who had worked with GGRM.
As for using trucks, you DO know, don't you, that
this involves over 30 pieces of equipment? Any idea
what the cranes, trucks, permits, escorts, etc. would
cost for such a thing? Not to mention how long it
would take?
