A close read of the article provides a transliteration back into English of the Japanese transliteration of "Gateway." In Japanese all syllables are phonemes of a vowel or consonant/vowel pair where the consonant is always first. Transliterated Gaijin words often pick up extra syllables to conform with these phonemes, therefore, "gateway" becomes "Ge-e-to-we-i," which would roughly sound like "gey-too-way"
