First off, thanks for the link to and plug for my site, it’s nice to know people are looking at it. In addition to the site, the BC&T also rated a chapter in the Eastern Oregon Shortline Railroads book I wrote (published by Fonthill Media, distributed in the US by Arcadia) that’s been out a couple years now.

And yes, they did dieselize with a 44-tonner, the former Almanor Railroad #106. The Collins companies owned both operations at the time, they sent the smaller unit north after buying the 70-tonner #166 for the Almanor in 1955.

I’d encourage anyone in the area to take a drive on Telocaset Lane, the grade of the BC&T is still fairly evident, and most of the ties are still there. Fascinating bit of railroad history.
