I kinda doubt a new PG&E bankruptcy would go down as in the past: in and out in a few years. Newsom looks to be more interventionist and he will be under pressure from his left to do something more radical.
I don't know if the State could run a utility like PG&E effectively; the track record in other areas is spotty. Of course the rr connection here is BART is one of PG&E's biggest customers and Caltrain and CAHSR down the road would stand as major users of electricity. And don't leave out Teslas, yada-yada.
Losers here would likely be us ordinary schmucks with rate increases the order of the day. We're powerless, literally.
Personally I suspect the possibility that other peoples' property may have been involved in the wildfires - in other words detritus from adjacent property may have been flying into PG&E power facilities flung by extremely high winds. Can't prove that but seems possible. PG&E should have installed extensive cameras years ago. Even now they will get @#$%& about invasion of privacy.
