Dunno if I understand the higher cost of electric cars - my guess is the batteries primarily.

On the other hand maintenance costs should be lower and longevity greater. Similarly streetcars and trolley buses have a longer service life than diesels.

Connection to transit is obvious - if owning a car for the humble folk is difficult they will have to look to other means to get around. Public transit, walking, bikes, scooters.

Likely to make for some dangerous sidewalks for pedestrians who will also have to worry about getting run over by alleged self-driving autos.
