Industrial switching question?

Maybe one day, we might be able to draw a crude diagram....
I rememeber a very long time ago down in the LA basin somewhere, maybe the Long Beach area seeing an industrial area served with a cross track. Take your '+' sign and add a connecting track from top or bottom to left or right side allowing access to any direction. Does anyone here recall cross tracks in Industrial area's?
