Man Breaks Onto Amtrak Train, Lunges at Conductor in Fullerton, Police Say

A man who forced his way onto an idled Amtrak train in Fullerton before lunging at a conductor who tried to get him off was arrested following negotiations with police.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, used a pick axe and some sort of chain to break into an unoccupied train just before 1:40 p.m. at the station at 120 E. Santa Fe Ave., Fullerton Police Sgt. Carin Wright said.

The conductor, who was the only one on the train, told the man to get off the train, but the suspect refused and lunged at the conductor, Wright said.

The conductor called police and officers managed to convince the man to put down the axe and chain and surrender just before 3 p.m., Wright said.

A man carrying a pickax broke into a parked Metrolink train in Fullerton, halting rail traffic and delaying passengers for about an hour on Monday, March 18

Officers were called at about 1:30 p.m. to the Fullerton Transit Station, 120 E. Santa Fe Ave., after an employee saw a man force his way into a vacant train, according to Fullerton Police Sgt. Carin Wright. She said the suspect was carrying a pickax and lunged at a conductor who asked him to leave.

The suspect was alone in the train, and initially refused to come out after police arrived, said Wright. Officers eventually convinced him to surrender, and the man was in custody by 3 p.m. Information regarding his identity or any charges he might face were not immediately released.

The incident temporarily prevented all trains from leaving the station. Metrolink buses stepped in to pick up riders who were left stranded
