Many of our preconceived notions are obsolete. The replacement rate for population is about 2.1 births per woman. That is the number to keep a constant population. Note the progress with time of all of Latin America.

Note that the birth rate falls as the economy gets better. By the way, the use of birth control is higher among US Catholics than among US Protestants.
