The Great White Fleet arrives in San Pedro. They have a long way to go with filling the trestle with rock mined and floated over from Catalina Island.

Even before any port facilities here, Richard Henry Dana's ship the Pilgrim anchored off of Point Fermin to collect cattle hides destined for the shoe factories of New England.
