Good point, Joe. Our spring season here in the Northwest has flown by quickly and gone straight into hot, dry weather a bit earlier than normal. Heck, our region has already seen its first round of wildfires, easily a month ahead of "schedule." Which explains why I have summer on the brain. Considering our early onset to weather more commonly seen in July and August, I wonder if some local farmers have summer on the brain as well. Washington has been among the top sweet corn producing states for many years (it was ranked No.1 in 2012). Corn is now a lucrative rotation crop in a region dominated by wheat. Peak harvest time for Washington sweet corn is typically mid-July. Our local stores might have received some early pickings, but the real flood of fresh corn will no doubt show up here in about a month.
