I actually voted for Jimmy twice but he did not stand a chance against Ronnie after the failed hostage rescue attempt. Poor Jimmy like so many others thought the Ayatollah government was some kind of reformist revolution - not. If the Repubs had not rewarded Gerald Ford with the nomination in 1976 and picked RR instead the latter might have won and he would have been stuck with the Ayatollah.

If any last-gasp candidate were to be yanked out of the shadows in the event of a total impasse at the Demo convention it would be Hillary.
