BART San Jose to Santa Clara

I understood that there were 2 reasons to continue the BART extension from SJ on to Santa Clara:

1) There is no room around Diridon/Cahill St station for any layover tracks or other end-of-line facilities.

2) It's only from the Santa Clara Caltrain station that there is any shuttle/connector to San Jose Airport. Now. why THAT is the case could start a whole new discussion...)
