Donner and/or FRC & Inside Gateway

Should one trek up the Sierra foothills Donner route or up into the Feather River Canyon or perhaps up into the Inside Gateway, any one in know have an info on the amount of rail traffic in these areas so that a mini road trip isn't a total waste?

More or less traffic volume during the week or particular day(s) or weekend?

Are the frequencies that were listed in the last AP TT #20 still valid & in use by both UP and BNSF?
